Youthline is a New Zealand Telephone counseling Helpline run by youth, for youth.[1] It can be contacted 24/7 on Helpline: 0800 37 66 33 (free phone from landline); Free Text: 234; Email: talk@youthline.co.nz ; or Web: www.youthline.co.nz .[2]
Establishment [edit]
Youthline was first established in Auckland, New Zealand in 1970 by Father Felix Donnelly and others.[1]
National focus [edit]
Today, Youthline provides a nationally linked youth development organisation, providing a range of services on the basis of a framework spanning three areas that it sees as essential to enhancing the wellbeing and outcomes of young people:
- Community development and social change
- Training and youth development
- Service provision
Youthline provides:
- Counselling services
- Youth worker services
- Information and referrals
- Training, seminars and programmes
- Community development and social enterpris.[3]
Based in 11 local centers around the country, Youthline enlists 1100 volunteers nationwide (100 of whom are working in an online context).[3]
