Wuxi County (Chinese: 巫溪县; pinyin: Wūxī xiàn) is a county of Chongqing Municipality, People's Republic of China. The total population of Wuxi was 514,200, it covers 4,030 square kilometres (1,560 sq mi), its GDP per capita is $1,600 in 2012 according to the newsest estimate(PPP per capita is $3,900) which is comparable to India GDP per capita and the urban population stood at 83,000 as of 2012 estimate.

Sitting at the upper reaches of Daning River and the southern slopes of the central Daba Mountains, Wuxi borders Hubei (Zhuxi County and Shennongjia) to the east, Fengjie County and Wushan County to the south, Yunyang County and Kai County to the west, Chengkou County and Shaanxi (Zhenping County) to the north. It is best known for its scenic views and its preserved witchcraft culture.

The vast majority of Wuxi's land area is mountainous. With a wet abundant precipitation, Wuxi County is suitable for many plants to grow, the local products are medicine nectar, starch, bacon, dried fruit, vegetables and antler.

Total economy performance in the year 2010 is good and the growth rate is accelerating. The GDP was 3.7 billion Yuan in 2010, 13% real GDP growth rate in 2010

Tourism is a large industry in Wuxi county, with a number of tourism companies flourishing in recent years. The county's natural resources are some of the best preserved of all the counties of Chongqing, and it's gonna be No.1 tourist site of Chongqing municipality.

Transportation [edit]

Massive infrastructure programs started in 2008, like Wuxi-Yunyan highway, Wuxi-Fengjie highway and Wuxi-Zhenping highway with anticipation of completion in 2013 and that will be connected with other China National Highways

There is also a plan under consideration about building an airport in Wuxi County to serve the region across Shaanxi province, Sichuan province also other neighbouring provinces like Hubei, Guizhou, Hunan.

The Wuxi Long-distance Bus Station just started the bus service to Guangdong province and Shanghai in the early 2009, and added more to the neighbouring provinces in 2010.
