Stadium[edit]
From 2008 to 2010, the team played its home matches at Kastles Stadium,[1] a temporary outdoor stadium erected each summer in a parking lot on the site of the former Washington Convention Center. In 2011, the team announced its move to the new Kastles Stadium at The Wharf, located on the Southwest Waterfront at 800 Water Street SW, Washington DC 20024. The team played in the new facility in July 2011, and is located near the L'Enfant Plaza (Yellow/Orange/Blue/Green) and Waterfront Metro (Green) stops. Capacity is 2,600.
Evidently the move agreed with the Kastles as they finished the regular season with a 14-0 record, only the second team in the 36 year history of World Team Tennis to have an undefeated season. Since the Kastles went undefeated in both 2011 and 2012, the Kastles have never lost a match at Kastles Stadium at The Wharf.
Head coach[edit]
Thomas Blake was named head coach of the Washington Kastles in June 2008. Blake became a professional tennis player in 1996. He partnered with his brother, James Blake, to play doubles in the US Open in 1996 and 2002. In 2005, Blake retired from professional singles.
Following Blake's departure, Murphy Jensen was named the new head coach for the 2009 Season. Jensen is a former French Open doubles winner with brother Luke, and hosts a show on The Tennis Channel.
Jensen was named 2011 and 2012 Coach of Year as the head coach of the Kastles.
2011 Record Season - 1st Perfect Season[edit]
The Washington Kastles became the first team in the 36-year history of World Team Tennis to finish the season with a perfect 16-0 record. Only one other team has posted a 14-0 record, the 1994 Newport Beach Dukes who lost in the first round of the finals. Washington became the first DC based sports team to post an undefeated regular season and win the championship at the same time.
2012 Record Season - 2nd Consecutive Perfect Season[edit]
The Washington Kastles completed consecutive 16-0 perfect seasons in 2011 and 2012 to win the World Team Tennis championships, becoming the first major professional team in the United States to complete back-to-back perfect seasons. They are undefeated in post-season play and currently have a 32-match winning streak, one short of the all-time professional sports record set by the Los Angeles Lakers during the 1971-72 season.
Ambassador Program[edit]
The Washington Kastles started an Ambassador Program[2] for local clubs, organizations and individuals. Ambassadors receive ticket discounts, formal recognition, and the ability to participate in weekly Kastles conference calls.
