In terms of access to the Internet, Mozambique has a comparatively low rate of penetration with only 2.8% of the population having access to the Internet according to the Internet World Stats 2010 data.[1]
TDM, Mozambique's national fixed-line operator, offers ADSL Internet services for home and business customers. In late 2010 packages ranged from 128 kbit/s with 6 GB cap for MTN750 (~US$21) to 4 Mbit/s with 31 GB cap for MTN4300 (~US$118).[2]
The two mobile operators, mCel and Vodacom, also offer Internet access using 3G.
Mozambique was the first African country to offer broadband wireless services through WiMax.
With the introduction of the SEACOM submarine cable in July 2009 and the EASSY submarine cable in July 2010, Mozambique now has access to cheaper international connectivity and is no longer reliant on VSAT or neighbours South Africa for Internet transit services.
MOZIX is the country's Internet Exchange.
