This article provides an overview of the telecommunications infrastructure of the country of Lithuania, including telephone, radio, television, and Internet access.

  • Telephone system: adequate but is being further modernized to provide an improved international capability and better residential access
    • Domestic telephone system: a national fiber-optic cable interurban trunk system is nearing completion; rural exchanges are being improved and expanded; mobile cellular systems are being installed; access to the Internet is available;
    • International telephone system: landline connections to Latvia and Poland; major international connections are to Denmark, Sweden, and Norway by submarine cable for further transmission by satellite

Lithuania has approximately 27 broadcasting stations, but may have as many as 100 transmitters, including repeater stations (2001)

  • Lithuania has the highest FTTH (Fiber to the home) penetration rate in Europe (18% in late 2009) according to FTTH Council Europe
  • Lithuania is among countries having the fastest Internet connection in the world according to the results of Speedtest.net

  • Internet Service Providers (ISPs): 32 (2001)

ADSL carrier services in Lithuania are provided by monopoly Teo LT. In the future this service might be used by other ISPs for their retail services. Find more about "Zebra DSL"

According to the study carried out by Ookla Net Metrics, Lithuania has the second fastest internet download and upload speed in the world.[1][2]

In early 2009 at least two ISPs in Lithuania offered download speeds of up to 200 Mbit/s in their standard packages for home users.
