Thandavarayapuram Ramaswami Pachamuthu (better known as T. R. Pachamuthu) is an Indian educationalist, philanthropist and politician best known as the founder and chancellor of SRM University.[1]

He was born in Thandavarayapuram, Attur on 24 August 1941. He comes from the Tamil Nadu community of Parkavakulam.[2]

He is the founder of the political party Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK). He is also the founder of The New Generation Media Corporation (Puthiya Thalaimurai Magazine ,Puthiya Thalaimurai TV and Vendhar TV) . He also runs popular transport service, SRM Transports and growing electronics company on solar energy, Green pearl electronics. He also created a medical research hospital named SIMS.

Honours[edit]

On 19 February 2010, Pachamuthu was awarded with an honorary doctorate (honoris causa) from Birmingham City University for his work in the field of engineering and technology education.[3] He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics,[2][4] and is a qualified chartered engineer.[2] He is an Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers.[5]
