Thandavarayapuram Ramaswami Pachamuthu (better known as T. R. Pachamuthu) is an Indian educationalist, philanthropist and politician best known as the founder and chancellor of SRM University.[1]

He was born in Thandavarayapuram, Attur on 24 August 1941. He comes from the Tamil Nadu community of Parkavakulam.[2]

He is the founder of the political party Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK). He is also the founder of The New Generation Media Corporation (Puthiya Thalaimurai Magazine and Puthiya Thalaimurai TV).


On 19 February 2010, Pachamuthu was awarded with an honorary doctorate (honoris causa) from Birmingham City University for his work in the field of engineering and technology education.[3] He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics,[2][4] and is a qualified chartered engineer.[2] He is an Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers.[5]
