Skill positions in gridiron football are the positions that are most responsible for causing or preventing points from being scored. The skill positions are:
Skill positions are often contrasted with linemen – players who line up along the line of scrimmage. Skill position players are generally smaller than linemen, but they must also be faster and have other talents (such as the ability to throw or catch the ball, cover an opposing receiver, or to dodge opponents) that rely more on finesse than on brute force. Positions that are not considered "skill positions" would include nose tackles, defensive tackles, offensive linemen, fullbacks, and tight ends (though the latter two positions can be either skill or non-skill, depending on the situation).
Placekickers, punters, long snappers and holders are usually considered separate from both the skill positions and the lineman positions, due to their highly specialized lines of work.

We got spoiled in the 2012 NFL draft with all of the skill-position talent that went early, and that simply wasn't the case Thursday night. Last year, 11 quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers went in the first 32 picks. This year, that number ...

Cincy has done a good job of remaining young at many positions, but apparently may not rush to start the big-name skill position players coming out of the early rounds of the draft for the Bengals. Cincy's third-round selection in the 2013 draft signed ...

Indeed, there were times in recent seasons when Lewis and Urlacher were painfully exposed in pass coverage, with too much open space on the field to account for, and not enough speed to chase down the young and athletic skill-position weapons that ...

I'm sure that someday we'll have another white skill position player for him to hetero-man-crush on and it just wouldn't be the same without him. Finally, I don't mind sitting next to Cobby (@CobbyNation) but if he stirs up shit with the State Patrol ...
