Route description [edit]
Lancaster County [edit]
PA 897 begins at an intersection with US 30 in Gap. In Salisbury Township, PA 897 joins with Pennsylvania Route 340 for a half a mile. In East Earl Township, PA 897 joins with U.S. Route 322, then with Pennsylvania Route 23. In Brecknock Township, PA 897 passes over both Interstate 76/Pennsylvania Turnpike and U.S. Route 222 with no access to either one. In Adamstown, PA 897 meets Pennsylvania Route 272, named Lancaster Avenue.
Lebanon County [edit]
In Schaefferstown, PA 897 overlaps with Pennsylvania Route 419 and Pennsylvania Route 501. Although both PA 501 and PA 897 are signed as heading north, PA 419 is signed as heading south, creating a wrong-way concurrency. In South Lebanon Township east of Lebanon, PA 897 terminates at an intersection with US 422.
