The Oscar del Calcio are awards given by the Italian Footballers' Association (the AIC) to the players, the coach and the referee who has been considered to have performed the best over the previous Serie A season. The winners of the prizes are chosen by the league's footballers.
The awards are gold plated statues that have the form of a footballer in the act of kicking, the same symbol of the AIC.
The individual awards are:
- Best Serie A Footballer (Migliore calciatore assoluto)
- Best Italian Footballer (Miglior calciatore italiano)
- Best Foreign Footballer (Miglior calciatore straniero)
- Best Young Footballer (Miglior calciatore giovane)
- Best Goalkeeper (Miglior portiere)
- Best Defender (Miglior difensore)
- Best Coach (Miglior allenatore)
- Best Referee (Miglior arbitro)
The first edition was celebrated in 1997. In 2000, the award Best Defender (Miglior difensore) was added to the event. In 2005, the award "Serie A Goal of the Year" (Miglior gol) was added, in the same year that Best Team prize was removed and replaced with the Team of the Year.
