Introduction [edit]

Loksatta (Devanagari: लोकसत्ता) was launched on January 14, 1948 in Maharashtra, India. It is published by The Indian Express Group. Loksatta is one of the most widely read Marathi dailies in Maharashtra today. Loksatta is published out of Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, and Delhi.

Edited by one of the most renowned Marathi and English journalist Mr. Girish Kuber, Loksatta is known for a powerhouse editorial team that generates rock solid content which acts as the benchmark for competition. Loksatta known for providing readers with a wholesome reading experience, offers readers with a special Sunday delight, Ravivaar Loksatta. Ravivaar Loksatta offers Sunday Specials in the form of stories, articles and comprehensive coverage of latest happenings in the society with analysis and opinions from renowned experts from their respective fields.

Established in the year 1948, on the Makar Sankranti day, Loksatta has illustrious past. In-depth coverage of Mahatma Gandhi`s assassination and subsequent developments really established Loksatta as one of the best newspaper. The Loksatta is known for its strong newsdesk. The newsdesk won the DAVP awards for best layouts in seventies. The founder of the Indian Express Group, a great freedom-fighter, Late Ramnath Goenka, remained dedicated to Loksatta.[2]

It had remained largest circulated standard Marathi daily for many years, by later 1990s saw competition from newer dailies like Mahatrastra Times and Navkal, by 1997 it only had a circulation of 400,000, Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur combined.[3]

However things turned around in the 2000s when it underwent a major revamp, this included addition of various supplements, and adding several new cities for local editions.[4]

Special Magazine –The Loksatta Diwali Ank is the yearly magazine from Loksatta. This magazine is a collector's issue covering various topics like politics, entertainment, sports, health, fitness etc. written by eminent Marathi writers and intelligentsia.

Vruttant [edit]

Six days a week, the supplement that covers local news and events of the city. Loksatta has 11 city supplements catering to various cities/regions across Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nagar, Nagpur, Vidharbha, Nashik, Marathwada, Uttar Maharashtra. These city supplements feature latest happenings and events of the city along with business and entertainment stories.

Arth Vruttant [edit]

Monday: Focusing on in-depth business and financial news, Arth Vruttant a 2 page special of Loksatta is dedicated to investments helping readers with tips on how to make the most of their money. Arth vruttant is dedicated to personal finance with colorful charts, graphs, tables and analysis explaining complex financial terminology in simple detail.

Monday: A special supplement that guides youth on various Education & Career opportunities available to them. Career Vruttant provides students with comprehensive knowledge of procedures and processes of various competitive exams and career building prospects in diverse fields from Agriculture to Information Technology.

Tech-IT [edit]

Tuesday: The special section on the back page of all city supplements every Tuesday would focus on latest Gadgets, Gizmos, Mobile phones and Gaming Consoles launched in the Market. The section would also review latest automobiles with reports on test drives, car accessories, blue tooth etc.

Trek- IT [edit]

Wednesday: As the name suggest, the special section is a treat for all nature and Trekking lovers. The one page special previews hot trekking spots across Maharashtra. The feature also shares real life experience of trekkers and ways of conquering these challenging trekking destinations.

Drive-IT [edit]

Thursday : Drive IT a section on the back page of All Vruttants (the city supplement) every Thursday focuses on latest automobiles, bikes & cars. The section gives buying tips, ways and means of maintenance and upkeep of vehicles along with auto finance options.

Cut-IT [edit]

Friday : Every Friday Loksatta carries a special page called Cut-IT on the back page of all vruttants that covers the silver screen in all its glory. Style IT [edit]

Saturday: Style IT a special page on Back page of all vruttants every Saturday, offers various styling tips to the youth. Style IT profiles various celebrities and their styling fundas. It shares stories, reviews and previews of latest happenings of fashion weeks and the latest trends in the market. The page guides young people on developing their sense of fashion and looking presentable at all times.

Viva [edit]

Friday: VIVA is a lifestyle supplement of Loksatta for the young modern Maharashtrian women. The supplement focuses on fashion, cooking, beauty, health and fitness, lifestyle, and relationships. The supplement dedicated to today’s woman is full of tips that help women to get better one step at a time. The supplement is guest edited by renowned actress and writer Sonali Kulkarni.
