The late dictator Rafael Trujillo and the Dominican Republic are not on the List of the Righteous among the Nations though Trujillo’s Dominican Republic at the Évian Conference in 1938 was the only country to offer to take in Jewish refugees (100,000). The Dominican Republic admitted over eight-hundred Jewish refugees before Germany curbed the exodus. Two years prior to the Évian Conference Trujillo ordered the killing of over 30,000 Dominicans, most of Haitian descent.[14]
