Living former governors [edit]
As of 21 November 2012 (2012-11-21)[update], four former governors were alive, the oldest being Walter Dale Miller (1993–1995, born 1925). The most recent governor to die was Bill Janklow (1979–1987, 1995–2003), on January 12, 2012. The most recently-serving governor to die was George S. Mickelson, who died in office during a plane crash on April 19, 1993.
