South & West Kent College (operating as K College) is a college of Further and Higher Education in Kent that was formed by the merger of West Kent College and South Kent College in April 2010. In 2009-10 it had 25,290 students across 5 campuses at Ashford, Dover, Folkestone, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.[1]
It has a Partner College status with the University of Greenwich, and further partnerships with the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University.[1] The Principal is Bill Fearon (who was formerly the WKC Principal) and the Patron is Lord Mayhew of Twysden.
Courses [edit]
The main campus in Tonbridge teaches a large number of A-level and vocational courses including apprenticeships. It also runs teacher training courses, TUC courses and has a Professional Development Centre. It has additional teaching courses on deaf issues and a dyslexia unit.
Additional centres [edit]
The college runs a construction-orientated teaching centre based at Units 10 & 11, Kingstanding Way on the North Farm Industrial Estate in Tunbridge Wells called the Construction Crafts & Engineering Centre.
The college closed all its IT outreach centres in July 2006. These had been in Crowborough, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
K College Student Union [edit]
The West Kent College Student Association has recently rebranded as K College Student Union. The main rebrand involves developing a new logo, changing its name and initiating a consultation on its constitution.
The Student Union consists of a President, Vice-President and Communications Officer as well as 6 Union Officers who have a mixed remit to cover all the facets of student representation. Details of elections and the Student Union can be found on Facebook as well as Moodle.
