The Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Year is a basketball award given to the Horizon League's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1979–80 season—the first year of the conference's existence. Four players have won the award multiple times: Byron Larkin, Brian Grant, Rashad Phillips and Alfredrick Hughes. Hughes, unlike the other three who each won twice, was awarded the Player of the Year on three occasions—a feat that has never been duplicated.
As of 2013, there have only been two ties in the award's history (1980–81 and 1982–83). Butler, which left for the Atlantic 10 Conference in 2012, has seven recipients, which is the most all-time. Among current members, Loyola has the most, with six. Only one current member of the Horizon League has never had a winner – Youngstown State.
Winners [edit]
Jeff Nordgaard won in 1996 as a player for UW-Green Bay.
