Fukui Station (福井駅 Fukui-eki?) is a JR West and Echizen Railway railway station located in the city of Fukui, Fukui Prefecture, Japan.

Fukui-Ekimae Station on the Fukui Railway Fukubu Line is located approximately 150 meters to the west.

History[edit]

JR Fukui Station[edit]

  • 15 July 1896: Japanese Government Railways (JGR, later JNR) Fukui Station opens. At the time, the station was the line's terminus.
  • 12 October 1909: The line renamed Hokuriku Main Line.
  • January 1952: JNR opens new station building with financial support from the local government.
  • 1 April 1987: With the privatization of JNR, Fukui Station becomes part of West Japan Railway Company (JR West).
  • 18 July 2004: Because of heavy rain and flooding around Fukui Station, service on the Etsumi-Hoku Line temporarily stopped.
  • 18 April 2005: The new station building and the PRISM FUKUI shopping mall open.

Echizen Railway Fukui Station[edit]

  • 21 September 1929: Kyoto Dentō Echizen Electric Railway Line Fukui Station opens.
  • 2 March 1942: Station becomes part of the Keifuku Electric Railroad Company; line renamed Echizen Main Line.
  • 25 June 2001: Service halted due to a train collision on 24 June 2001.
  • 2 February 2003: Station becomes part of the Echizen Railway Company.
  • 20 July 2003: Train service restored.
