Guinea elects on national level a head of state—the president—and a legislature. The president is elected for a five-year term by the people. The National Assembly (Assemblée Nationale) has 114 members, elected for a four-year term, 38 members in single-seat constituencies and 76 members by proportional representation.

Alpha Condé became the first president democratically elected in 52 years since Guinea's independence in 1958.
