Disney Junior is a programming block on Disney Channel or independent channel that is broadcast in many different countries and regions. The Disney Junior brand, currently existing as 22 channels or blocks in 156 countries and territories, was formerly known as Playhouse Disney.[1]

Asia [edit]
Disney Junior in Asia is a 24-hour commercial-free pay cable television channel which launched on 11 July 2011. It was formerly known as Playhouse Disney Asia (which first aired on 1 January 1994). On the day before, the Playhouse Disney mascots Ooh and Aah faded out as part of the transition to Disney Junior. The programs are similar to the Disney Junior in the US. However the channel also carries non-Disney programming. Programming on the channel is uninterrupted by commercials.
Disney Junior is available on SkyCable channel 38 (Digital), Destiny Cable, Cablelink and selected cable affiliates nationwide in the Philippines, Astro in Malaysia, Indovision, First Media and Astro Nusantara in Indonesia and StarHub TV in Singapore. It also broadcasts in South Korea, Thailand, Brunei, Papua New Guinea, and Vietnam. Disney Junior is available as a block on Disney Channel Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and TV5 (Philippines). Other Asian countries like India have their own version of Disney Junior.
South Korea [edit]
Playhouse Disney was launched in 2004 in South Korea and was replaced by Disney Junior on July 11, 2011.

Playhouse Disney was launched in 2006 as a block on Disney Channel India. On July 4, 2011 it was replaced by Disney Junior, which became a 24-hour channel on October 15, 2012.
Hong Kong China [edit]
Playhouse Disney was launched in 2005 in Hong Kong and was replaced by Disney Junior on July 11, 2011.

Disney Kids was launched in 2002 in China and was replaced by Disney Junior on February 6, 2013.
Japan [edit]
Playhouse Disney was launched in 2003 in Japan and was replaced by Disney Junior on July 3, 2011. In Japan, Disney Junior is a programming block from 7:30am to 2:30pm on weekdays and as 7:30am to 10:00am on weekends.
Taiwan [edit]
In Taiwan, Disney Junior is a programming block from 8am to 2pm on weekdays, and 7am to 9am on weekends. Playhouse Disney block on Disney Channel was closed in June 2011, followed by a summer special. Subsequently, the Disney Junior block on the Disney channel was launched on September 1, 2011.
Australia and New Zealand [edit]
A 24-hour Australian cable and satellite channel available on Foxtel, Austar and Optus Television's subscription platforms. Playhouse Disney Channel was launched on pay television provider Foxtel and its affiliates in Australia in late 2005, and made available only on its digital service. SKY Network Television shows Playhouse Disney Channel in New Zealand. The channel is broadcast 24 hours a day, every day, showing most of the programs seen in the United States. Before Playhouse Disney Channel, Playhouse Disney was shown on Disney Channel Australia from 9am to 3pm weekdays, and until 10am on weekends, until Foxtel turned it into a full 24-hour channel. At 11:00 am 1 November 2007, the channel was added to TransACT.[2] It was formerly available on SelecTV from September 2008 until the closure of its English service in late 2010.[3][4] On 1 September 2009 the channel started broadcasting in 16:9 widescreen. The channel relaunched as Disney Junior on 29 May 2011.[5]

Italy [edit]
Playhouse Disney was launched on May 1, 2006, broadcasting everyday showing many of the same shows the US looks. On May 14, 2011, it was replaced by Disney Junior.
Netherlands and Flanders [edit]
Dutch-language television station for young children, it only broadcasts at daytime between 6 AM and 6:55 PM. At night a screensaver is displayed. It is available in the Netherlands on UPC and Ziggo. In Flanders it is available on Telenet and Belgacom. Viewers in Wallonia and Luxembourg receive the French version of Disney Junior.
On May 3, 2010 Disney Junior started as Playhouse Disney in the Netherlands.[6] Disney Junior replaced Playhouse Disney one year later on September 10, 2011.[7]

Playhouse Disney was launched on December 3, 2006 as a block on Disney Channel (Poland). On September 1, 2010 Playhouse Disney was launched as a channel.
On June 1, 2011, both channel and block were rebranded as Disney Junior.
Portugal [edit]
Playhouse Disney Portugal was launched as a block on September 8, 2007 on Disney Channel Portugal. was replaced by Disney Junior on July 1, 2011. The TV channel launched on November 1, 2012, replacing Disney Cinemagic.

It broadcasts as a television block on Disney Channel Romania it's called Playhouse Disney on Disney Channel.

Playhouse Disney was launched on August 12, 2010 as a block on Disney Channel Russia. September 1, 2012 Disney Junior replaces Playhouse Disney.

Playhouse Disney was launched on December 25, 2002. Broadcasts shows such as Guess with Jess, Caillou, and Nelly and Caesar. It was replaced by Disney Junior on June 1, 2011.

Playhouse Disney was launched in April 2007 as a block on Disney Channel Turkey. on September 1, 2010, it started as a TV channel.
UK and Ireland [edit]
Playhouse Disney was launched on September 29, 2000. It was rebranded as Disney Junior on May 7, 2011.
A one hour timeshift service of the channel named Disney Junior +, launched on 30 October 2007 as Playhouse Disney +, replacing the now defunct channel ABC1. It launched on the same day that the Disney Channels were reshuffled on Sky, involving Disney Cinemagic and Disney Cinemagic +1 moving down the EPG, to enable Playhouse Disney to move up the EPG to allow Playhouse Disney + to launch next to it on Sky 611 and 612 respectively. Playhouse Disney + was initially a 25-minute timeshift service until 11 April 2011 when it became a 1-hour timeshift service.
A high-definition simulcast of Disney Junior launched on Sky on 9 April 2013.[8]

An English-language Canadian version launched on November 30, 2007 as a multiplex channel of Family. It is also a programming block on Family which airs from 4:30am to 7:00am, and from 8:45 to 11:00am on weekdays. It also airs from 4:30am to 8:00am on weekends.[9] Unlike Family, Disney Junior has only one national feed operating from the Eastern Time Zone. For satellite, it is exclusively carried on Bell TV. The channel was re-launched under the new Disney Junior brand on May 6, 2011.[10]
A French-language Canadian version, Playhouse Disney Télé, launched on July 5, 2010 under its own licence, rebranded as Disney Junior on May 6, 2011, while focusing on the same type of programming, programs for preschoolers.[10] The channel was licensed in 2006 as Vrak Junior, a sister channel to Astral's Vrak.TV, targeted at younger viewers than Vrak.TV.[11] These are the only Disney Junior channels in the world which are not owned by The Walt Disney Company due to CRTC restrictions; they are owned by Astral Media under license. Playhouse Disney Canada and Playhouse Disney Tele were rebranded as Disney Junior on May 6, 2011. It is a commercial-free French language Category B specialty channel with entertainment and learning-based programming targeted toward preschoolers.[12]
Latin America [edit]
Disney Junior Latin America launched June 1, 2008, as Playhouse Disney Channel.[13] It is also a programming block on the mornings of Disney Channel Latin America, Disney Junior en Disney Channel. The programming is very similar to the version of the United States. It is broadcast in two feeds, North Zone and South Zone. It was relaunched as Disney Junior on April 1, 2011.
