The plot of the novel focuses on the vandalism of rock formations, the circumstances of the death of a policeman, an elderly Navajo accused of his murder, a bottle of expensive scotch liquor, and a book on Navajo witchcraft beliefs.
This book involves the characters Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee, and Janet Pete.
Coyote Waits (2003 film) [edit]
The novel was adapted for television in November 2003 and was directed by Jan Egleson. It aired as part of PBS's Mystery! series. The film starred starred Adam Beach as Chee and Wes Studi as Leaphorn. It also featured Jimmy Herman, Alex Rice, Graham Greene, Sheila Tousey, Keith Carradine and Gary Farmer. The filming locations were in New Mexico.
