Comedy Central in India is a localised version of Comedy Central which first began in the United States in the 1990s and in India on January 23 2012. The channel's programming concentrates solely on comedy. The channel is India’s first 24-hour channel dedicated to English language comedy content.[1] The English language comedy content programming with the options of the audio language feeds on direct-to-home (DTH). The channel airs many variety of comedy shows like sitcoms, reality, classics, candid-camera & comedy. The channel is currently blocked in India for 10 days from 25th May 2013 to 4th June 2013 according to a notice issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for telecasting “obscene” dialogues and “vulgar” words in 'Standup Comedy' which were derogatory to women. [2] Delhi High Court later upheld the ministry's decision stating that the penalty imposed upon the channel cannot be said to be excessive or unreasonable[3]
