The Chesterfield School District is a community public school district that serves students in kindergarten through sixth grades from Chesterfield Township, New Jersey, United States.
In December 2007, voters approved a referendum under which the district would spend $37.7 million to construct a new school building.[3] The planned opening date for the new building was pushed off to January 2011 due to delays in the project.[4] Costs related to the construction of the new school building and growing enrollment led to an increase in 8.6% in the local tax levy in the 2011-12 budget, which had grown to $9.4 million.[5]
As of the 2009-10 school year, the district's one school had an enrollment of 484 students and 38 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.74.[1]
The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "GH", the third highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.[6]
Public school students in grades 7 - 12 attend the schools of the Northern Burlington County Regional School District, which also serves students from Mansfield Township, North Hanover Township and Springfield Township, along with children of United States Air Force personnel based at McGuire Air Force Base.[7] The schools in the district (with 2009-10 enrollment data from the National Center for Education Statistics[8]) are Northern Burlington County Regional Middle School for grades 7 and 8 (660 students) and Northern Burlington County Regional High School for grades 9-12 (1,156 students). Both schools are in the Columbus section of Mansfield Township.
